Tackling the Evolution Issue - S/O 06 |
|
|

Children today are immersed with evolution “facts.”
Seemingly harmless cartoons, library books, movies, the Internet and
school curriculum proclaim the superiority of man and his independent
existence apart from a creator. Mother Nature takes on the attributes
of deity.
Why is this theory propagated with such audacity?
Because the alternative is to admit the existence of a superior being.
• If there is a Creator there is accountability.
• If there is accountability there is sin.
• If there is sin there is condemnation.
• If there is condemnation man needs a Savior!
As Christian teachers we cannot ignore the subject of evolution. We
can’t pretend that by teaching Biblical creationism other philosophies
will not attract our students. How shall we then teach?
The Bible Teaches Creation. When teaching creation to preschoolers give them a
firm foundation by consistently opening your Bible and showing them
God’s words.
Build into your older students a trust in the
dependability of The Book. It’s all or nothing! We can’t sidestep
verses we can’t explain then stake our lives on the rest of God’s Word.
Direct their attention to Scriptures such as Colossians 1:16-17;
Hebrews 11:3 and Jeremiah 10:12-13.
Evolution and the idea of millions of years of
Earth history is not found in God’s Word. It is a false doctrine.
The Biblical Account of Creation is Reasonable. Scientists have demonstrated that life can only come
from life. It is reasonable to believe the Almighty, living God created
living beings to reproduce after their kind (Gen. 1). It is unrealistic
to believe life came from something with no life.
Bring a potted dead plant to class and water it. Ask
the children “If I water this for a week will it come to life? Well
then I’ll water it for a month! No, it will never come to life because
life can only come from life.”
The Biblical Account of Creation Is Logical.
Our bodies are extremely complex. Our world is
complex. Our universe is complex. Is it logical to take apart a
computer, put all the pieces in a box, begin shaking the box and expect
the computer eventually to come together in working order? No!
Take time to point to the wonders of
creation—keeping in mind the effects of the Fall. Discuss Psalm 8.
Incorporate "God of Wonders" into your class hour. Build
excitement about the marvelous way God has put our bodies together
(Psalm 139).
Order does not come from chaos. Imagine messy
bedrooms fixing themselves! Imagine dirty dishes washing themselves!
When left to itself something that has order eventually dissolves into
something without order. It is not logical to believe our complex
universe, world, and human bodies came from chaos.
The Biblical Account of Creation Gives Purpose to Life. Each child needs a sense of his own identity and
worth. Knowing the Eternal God created and loves him shows he has
value. When children know where they came from they can also be sure of
their destiny.
Without our relationship to the Creator life becomes
meaningless, purposeless and even hopeless. As a result many young
people turn to alcohol, witchcraft, astrology and mind-expanding drugs.
Many choose to end their lives because they see no purpose in living.
How Shall We Then Teach? Give your students the helmet of salvation, the
shield of faith and the sword of the Word of God (Eph. 6:10-18).
Instruct them according to 1 Peter 3:15 so they will have answers for
their teachers and friends who oppose the truth.
